Clinical Supervision

Clinical Supervision for individuals and groups in pursuit of fulfilling requirements to become a North Carolina License Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In order to practice clinical social work, you must hold a masters degree in social work from an accredited university, and be licensed in the State of North Carolina. Applicants must pass a clinical exam and complete a minimum of 100 hours of supervision while working to receive 3000 hours of professional experience. These must be supervised by a qualified clinical supervisor approved by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.

Clinical supervision should be a place where you feel comfortable expressing doubts, asking questions, exploring your own biases, and connecting with what makes you Flawsome. My personal supervision approach is practical and casual, reflecting my experience in various clinical and administrative settings.  Supervision sessions may include laughter, ‘realness’ and exploration into developing your clinical style based on your personal and professional values.

The clinical supervisory relationship as a partnership, one where my role is to support and facilitate your personal, clinical and professional growth as you move towards licensure.

Some of the techniques that I employ are:

  • Modeling clinical techniques in a therapeutic relationship

  • Challenging evidence of transference and counter - transference

  • Providing education and community resources relevant to clinical interventions necessary to develop and maintain therapeutic rapport

  • Engaging in exercises which examine privilege, bias and self-awareness

  • Embracing growth which occurs from missed opportunities and mistakes

  • Providing guidance around ethical and legal issues

  • Creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and sharing. This creates an ideal atmosphere for learning and growth for the supervisee.

  • Providing a supportive learning environment of mutual respect, trust and alliance

Therapeutic approaches of which I am trained and will be integrated into clinical supervision include:

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Family Systems Approach

  • Trauma informed/evidence based interventions

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Harm Reduction Psychotherapy

  • Systemic Therapies
